CrossCat Qualifier

On October 21, 2010, in Hints, news, by Sally

Don’t let it be said that folks in the PacNW ain’t a friendly crew.  We’re attempting to make sure everyone has a fair shot…

The rules are simple…

  1. Obey all traffic laws (we’ve tried to include as many bike paths, parks, bike lanes, etc.  And when in doubt consult the Crossers Code and ride as much dirt as possible)
  2. You MUST complete the task assigned at each check point.  After you complete each task you will be given an object to show you completed it.  DO NOT lose these.  These show proof you completed the task.  If you do not show up with all the appropriate material there are “Second Chance Qualifiers” later in the day.  (any and all “I musta lost it on the way here” will be met with a “Meh, try again tonite.”)
  3. Use dirt and trails whenever you can.  You never know if we’ll have a hidden station somewhere on a trail.
  4. The areas with the Caution Signs…take them quite seriously.  You’ll end up with the slowest time and won’t qualify if you end up in an ambulance.
  5. I’ve personally swept every road and trail free of broken glass, nails, syringes, etc…so go ahead and leave the spare tube at home.
  6. You must race the bike you intend to ride on Sunday for the qualifier….unless the bike you’re riding on Sunday has a pony on it (man that bike is awesome!)
  7. The forecast is for some Rain.  The streets here can get slick.  Use caution if its wet.  Taking a corner a little slower is actually faster than picking yourself up off the pavement.
  8. Crossers Code…I swear to use all dirt trails, stairs, and dirt paths that are put infront of me over the (somewhat) more convienient pavement that might be right next to them.
  9. Do not take this map as the final word!  Sally is afraid of commitment (ask anyone) and I reserve the right to change this route at ANY time.
  11. You must ride the bike you intend on racing on Sunday (giveng you qualify)  Don’t ask me about Gears, Tire Choices, etc…you’re on a SS…at some point…you can only go so fast)

Ps…if you head out to pre-ride it…I’d seriously avoid the Greenbelt anytime after dusk.  Seriously….don’t do it.

Our Town is Better Than Yours…

On October 19, 2010, in Uncategorized, by Sally

I know this because we’re hosting SSCXWC this year.

Think your town has what it takes to pull on the lemay and put on what is becoming the greatest spectacle in Sport?

When asked about the SSCXWC these renouned media types and sportscasters had this to say…

John Madden – “Boom”

Al Michaels – “What the hell are you talking about”

Ron Burgandy –  ”I love scotch. Scotchy, scotch, scotch. Here it goes down, down into my belly”

Marv Albert – “this is my kind of event!”

What you’ll need…

  1. Three to Four people from your town willing to do what we tell them AND be willing to put this thing on next year
  2. Fast spinners
  3. The ability to lay down a mean air guitar lick
  4. Teamwork to pull off a W in a relay
  5. A fast pony

If you think your town has what it takes to pull this off…get a hold of Sally.

Where are you sleeping?

On October 16, 2010, in news, by rschuetze

The Moore Hotel has been kind in supporting the SSCXWC and is offering a 15% discount to guests that say the secret password.

To get the special deal:

  1. Contact Mike at the Moore Hotel at
  2. In the subject line of your email put the word “cyclocross“– (that’s the secret password)
  3. Let him know the room you’re interested in from the following options
    • “European Style” single queen bed with shared bath $50 +tax per night
    • Single with private bath $64 +tax per night

That’s the plan. The Moore is pretty close to the Saturday Qualifier, and close enough to stumble to from the Saturday night festivities.

If a hotel isn’t in your budget, you may get lucky and meet someone on Friday or Saturday that can put you up. To get a headstart on crashing at someone’s house, leave a comment on the Seattle Page with information about how many people need a place, and maybe someone will put you up.

You Have a Way…Does Your Bike?

On October 13, 2010, in Uncategorized, by Sally

Private jet in the hanger for repairs?

Did your Cannonball Run Lambo get impounded?

Airlines not buying the whole “massage table” or “art supplies” excuses anymore?

If you’re flying into Seattle make sure you double check with the Air Greyhound you happen to be on what their charges are to fly with your bike.  If it’s more than $75 each way, you may want to consider shipping out your bike before hand.

The friendly crew at Recycled Cycles in the University disctrict of Seattle have agreed to accept bikes and even build them up for you (for a couple bucks) if you need.

Call ahead and ask for Kirsten.  877-298-4683 (toll free)

(Recycled Cycles is not responsible for bikes damaged while in transit.  Tassels and glitter however…they might be responsible for that)

Buy stuff.

On August 23, 2010, in Uncategorized, by rschuetze

You may have noticed that we have a couple new additions to the menu bar.  Directions to the venue, as well as a link to our webstore.  We’ll be adding more merchandise to the webstore, so check back.  We are doing limited runs of all the merch- so if you want to make sure you don’t miss out- buy sooner rather than later.

As well as the current items we have for sale- socks and caps, you can expect a bunch more goodies- all done in very limited runs.

At this point in time we don’t plan on shipping merchandise.  It will all be available to pick up at the registration table starting October 22nd.
